I was just curious as to the actual purpose of the character's rating. I was guessing that it was some kind of measure of how powerful the character was with their items and such, but if that's the case it doesn't seem to be terribly accurate. I have a rating of 1.3, and I'm constantly losing fights to others with a 1.0 rating. Then again, it's possible I just suck. ;)

I'm a 1.2 right now, it changed after I equipped a certain item. But, I think I just suck too. :( That or it's just my halfling genetics. Curse my unknown EW father and mother....

I think I'm wasting my gold on magic/skills and should be saving up for weapons first?

Rating is based on the rarity of your items.

Now you could have 4 rare daggers that each do 8 damage, say (which is high for a dagger), and your opponent could have 4 common largeswords, that each do 10 damage, say.

Now you would have a higher rating than your opponent since you have rare items, and he has common items, but he will do better than you since his items do more damage.

Rating is an artifact of a prior system for ranking players and it is going to be looked at once other game effecting bugs are squashed.

Thommo is correct with this explanation :).

Whether it's used for anything in the future or not, I hope the 'rating' value does not disappear. It is, it seems to me, a better tool for evaluating opponents than rank.
