Personater

So, this is more something I've seen, and I'll throw a few things up for grabs in discussion if no one minds...I have no idea on some of these so please don't yell "noob!" if I am missing some of these since I didn't see much information on this...
Armor Bonuses:
Okay, so it shows on my skill trainer that I get armor bonuses. Are these just invisible and only show up in battle, affecting stats like Magic, Intellect, Strength, Dexterity, Life, etc, or does it just give an armor bonus (that may do nothing due to an armor cap of 100 I have, unless it surpasses that cap...)? I'm just curious on this personally.
Specialization's Affect on Items:
I am aware of the power of specialization, as my character seems to consistantly hit above the advertised damage of my spells damage with mastery equipped. More than the advertised damage almost always is what I've seen my Force spells do, ranging from the mid 50's to 80 and crit up to 218 with only 116 magic. That's pretty phenominal of a specialization for it to be doing that in my opinion, and I don't have a problem with it.
Specialization is evident from my experience, from secondaries doing 9 damage at a VI caliber secondary at 100 skill, or going on for more than the displayed number of rounds.
Which prompts me to ask: Does specialization of a specific area without a secondary item give the class more of a boost due to the lack of that item? Is that why I'm consistantly seeing REALLY high damage from my spells, since there is no secondary item for me to use?
The Effect of Proficiency:
This is not something I seem to see at all...I am a Coercer, and have a "proficiency" in Mental Magic. Unfortunately, I am unable to see what proficiency does even at a basic level, considering my Mental spells consistantly hit below their advertised damage. Maybe they add a little boost, and it's just that my specialized set of attacks (Force Primaries) get so much damage. See examples below, and the format is explained below also:
(Battle number) (Damage with mastery) I do this much damage.
Force Magic (Specialized):
(1) (48) Personater casts Power of Zarek for 71 damage
(2) (49) Personater casts Power of Zarek (Master) for 57 damage
(2) (48) Personater casts Power of Zarek for 54 damage
Mental Magic (Proficient):
(1) (42) Personater casts Thought of Zarek (Sage) for 33 damage
(2) (42) Personater casts Mind of Zarek (Sage) for a CRITICAL hit of 49 damage
(2) (42) Personater casts Mind of Zarek (Sage) for 33 damage
(2) (24) Personater casts Explosion of Mental VI Spell for 16 damage
