View Full Version : The Marketplace - How easy is this?

Everyone has been talking about a marketplace to trade items. How about making it an auction style system. You put an item up on the block, for a certain ammount of time and it ticks away, people bid everpoints ... highest bidder wins.

That should not only be simple, but ALSO create a market ... and a value, based on demand for items and rarity.

Might hafta actually bring down ultra rare items so people get less via attacks in order to command a price ... I guess it would have to be competitive to the item shops, but maybe the item shops only has basic stuff and you hafta deal with other players for good stuff.

20 feet of rope, a flask of oil, a torch ....

Oh yeah, and you should introduce a real monetary system too ... 100 copper pieces equals a silver piece, 4 silver equals a gold, etc.

Interesting idea, im not saying that it dosent have flaws, but its a very interesting idea. You never know, this might work. Or it might be added to the trash heap. Who knows? All im going to say is keep the ideas coming, if we get a few good ones, it will make this game better than it is.

"Keep em' coming baby, uhu, uhu! Keep em' coming baby, uhu, uhu!" :D

Something like this is planned in the future.

I'm not a programmer, but I figure that is the easiest solution to create a market, and a value for items between players.

The Marketplace itself could also charge like 10% as a fee for overhead.

And I should get 2-3% of that fee, because it was my idea.

the market has been talked about since the begining. And the auction style has been brougt up as well.

I wish people would read before they post.

A player market has been planned since development began on the game. The auction concept has been suggested as well but I am not a fan of auctions because it removes the ability for players with limited funds from getting the best items because the players with a lot of EverPoints will be able to buy all of the best items.

-Zbut a first-come-first-serve market has the issues of people who are on all the time getting all the good stuff, and people collaborating to sell stuff to friends for almost nothing.

Every item will have a minimum price .. We will not let players use the player market as a player-to-player trading system.

-Z if its really the broke player you are concerned about , that I dont understand....If I blow all my eps and dont save to buy items then thats my fault/ strategy..... some people will battle more some will save..... if its the newer player you are concerned about because he doesnt have acess to alot of eps thats a different issue to me......

an auction really is the most democratic way to go but if you're concerned about the little guy being able to win an auction one suggestion would be to give the seller the full price of the winning bid while giving a perentage off that value depending on how many battles the bidder has been in.....

for example.... an items winning bid is 300 eps...but john doe having less than 100 battles gets it at a 50 percent discount.... so he bids 300 but only has to pay 150 while the seller gets the full 300 credited to his account. jim smith drops out of the biding because he only gets 25 percent off because he has between 100- 250 batles ,,,the whole key to the sliding scale would be number of battles..therefore the newer players, though they have less to spend, could compete in an auction with the guys with deep pockets

the numbers and percent off i've given are just numbers which could be adjusted based on the outcome of some auctions...if it appears that the little guy is geting TOO BIG an advantage the percent off can easily be adjusted..... as always thanks for the fun game and all the hard work Z and partners in crime:D

Actually, it's not a "new players can't afford it" thing .. rather, it's a "long-time player who doesn't have an endless supply of everpoints will never have a shot at the best-yet-very-rare items" thing.

In general, auctions are good and drive up the price which makes more money for the seller. However, it can also make it impossible for all but the richest of playres from buying any of the rarest items in the game.

At some point, a few players may end up with tens of thousands of everpoints. Those players will be able to way overpay for any item if they want it bad enough.

Another thing to consider is one player who has a ton of everpoints could buy every high end item in the game and double or triple the price on it and then resell it. Every single time they see someone selling a very high-end item, they keep bidding until they win, then double or triple the price and put it back up for sale. If they are selling enough items each day, they could end up owning every high-end item in the game which would keep them from ever losing their rank.

This can happen with non-auctions as well but the top player would have to stay online and in the player market 24/7 in order to keep other players from having a chance to buy it and even then, they wouldn't be able to do it. If they had 24 or more hours to scan to outbid anyone, it would be easy to keep the best items out of the hands of other players.

I am just not a fan of auctions at all. To me, the seller should ask what they want for it from the start and that way, any player with that many everpoints can buy it. The seller can always lower their price if no one buys it.

That would be perfect but what is to stop someone from creating a new character to buy all of the best items at a cheaper cost? Then, after buying tons of discounted items, they could make it their main character. It would be easy to push a lot of everpoints to a new character so they could buy all of the high-end items at a much lower cost.

Giving discounts creates too big of a problem because players will find away to take advantage of it .. I know I would if I was a player.
