For use by the ranger class. I don't know if any of the devs have played FF12, but they could very easily be like that. Let me know if I need to explain more.

Hmmm, FF12, don't have that one yet. I do have IV-X though. Ill probably play 12 sometime over the summer, but until then, I can't comment on this...

I'm gonna buy all of them coming up pretty soon. I'll have 1-12!
Back to the point though. The arrows and bolts have elemental or status effect qualities, or none. and have different strength.

We could have these as an ammo skill as a sub-skill of ranged, or they could just not have a skill and be awarded as prizes or be in the weapons shop. Bolts can only be used on crossbows, and arrows only on bows.
This would be a much needed uniqueness for the class and really be good for the player store too.
Of course every ranged weapon would have to come with a 0-benefit "round" so it could be used, but other rounds could be purchased or won.
This could really feed off of the "off-hand" concept propsed in another thread.

This sounds sort of cool. It would require more upkeep than the other classes, as you would constantly have to make sure that you had enough arrows in stock, and you would be helpless if you ran out of arrows. It would also make the ranger class very un-reliable, lets say you win those ultra-rare infernuim bolts, you are really good for a couple days worth of battles, but as soon as you run out of your good arrows, you fall 100 spots in the ranking. Could be good if implemented correctly though.

it could be done so you wouldn't have to reload on them, u have an infinite supply. Mages don't have to rewrite their spells so they don't get faded and fighters don't have to sharpen their swords because they're dulling. And we don' have to refill our potions after each battle, they just magically refill themselves.

Perhaps you could make it so that you have a chance of recovering some or all of your arrows during the fight. You could also make a special "ranger section" of the store that always sells at least the most basic variety of arrows or bolts so that you don't end up being a sitting duck every time you run out.

But another problem if you give them a finite amount: what happens when someone attacks a ranger, do they still run out of arrows/bolts? If so it wouldn't take people long to figure out that getting your friends to attack the same ranger would quickly render them less effective or even helpless, depending on how much they depended on their ranged weapons.

Suddenly, your friends would become useful...
