View Full Version : Change the reward for recruiting

or people will probably stop doing it.
Before, you were garunteed a uncommon or better item, which if it wasn't suited for your guy, you could sell for 5, 15, or 25 everpoints. You got 1 of those a day, for 10 days. Lets say that averaged out to something like 70 everpoints. At that time 1 everpoint = 1 battle.
Now, you get 1 everpoint for everyone you sign up, and then 1 more everytime they fight 100 battles. Lets say, in that 10 day period, the new recruit plays 24/7 and earns the max of 144 everpoints a day for a grand total of 1440 everpoints. Now, this person didn't sleep for 10 straight days, but even if they managed this feat and fought the max ammount of battles that allowed that still come out to 480 battles MAX. So, as a recruiter, you get an additional 4 whole everpoints to add to your initial one. That ALMOST gets you 2 battles. This mythical player that never sleeps would have to be on non-stop, never buying from the shop and always battling for 435 days to get you the 70 battles you likely got under the old system within 10 days.
I realize that this 100 battle thing can carry on past the 10 days, but really, if a person sleeps some, maybe buys some thing in the shop, in reality you'd be lucky to get enough everpoints out of a recruit to fight 1 battle every 2 weeks. This is simply NOT WORTH IT.
People won't go out of their way for recruits, because its no longer worth their time, their trouble, or their money.
This is just my opinion, but I hope you pay heed.

I have to agree here. Even giving a single R or UR for a limited number of recruits upon thier 100th battle wiould be incentive enough.

Lol.
I guess they changed the reward:
Recruit new players! Earn FREE EverPoints!
When you recruit a player, you earn 0 everpoint.
But that is not all!
You also earn 0 everpoint every time that player fights 100 battles for as long as they play EverWars!
Very funny. You should seriously consider my thoughts on this. If it stays as is, I know I'll be pulling my adsense ad down, because it simply won't be worth it. I suspect Crepitus would do the same. I also doubt others would go about hunting for new players on message boards and amongst friends... there is no real motivation to do so at this point.
Anyways, thats my advice, take it or leave it.

Okay then, thanks very much for letting me know.
I'm taking my adsense ad down. I hope you guys can keep the numbers you need around here, because I imagine I'm not the only one making that move right now. Good luck.

What's the real story with it Zeras? What is the actual incentive?
I'm not being crappy in the slightest, but like HULK guessed, I'm not putting into it if there is no return.
Knowing if there is a benefit and how much will influence how much recruiting I would do, if anything. See I don't mind putting a bit in because it means I don't have to be as addictive on the game (though I still seem to be) to get ahead. It's worth a bit to me to play the game.
You guys are getting a lot of free advertising from us and I'm (clearly like HULK) not a complete philanthropist :) I'm more into the reciprocal altruism or symbiotic sort of relationship :D

I do not disagree with that and if you had created this thread, I would have been more inclined to discuss the matter. However, someone else preferred to use threats, intimidation and sarcasm.
My focus is now on development .. I am taking the advice of many of the users and ignoring most of the non bug threads. Unfortunately, I had a moment of weakness and responded.
In any case, Crepitus, I would be happy to discuss this with you via PM's as long as the conversation stays between us.

i don't understand the secretism here but whatever. An idea (for the future, i don't want to read another "we've got bigger things to do now" post) give the top x recruiters every month a good reward, make it so u can only get one of these a quarter so the rich folk don't manipulate the system. This will give a incentive to everyone without making it too easy to get the best items or too difficult to advance period.
also, ths way Crep wouldn't be so angry about other gifts ;) :p :D

It's because users who use threats, intimidation and sarcasm to try to get something they want instead of being more willing to come up with other suggestions are not worth taking time away from development.
Some users like Crepitus (and there are many others) are more capable of trying to find common ground instead of taking the "I want it my way or else I quit! Good luck!" approach.
Giving out great items before for recruiting greatly imbalanced the game and we made the decision that we would not do that this time since we wiped the database.

Hey, WHAT THE HECK?
I didn't threaten? I wasn't even sarcastic? I was trying to not do that intentionally actually. If you took it that way, you took it that way. All I was trying to do was illustrate my point.
Itimidation? Seriously, what the heck? Zeras, you need to re-read my posts if thats what you got out them.
All I was saying is that I think people (myself included) will stop recruiting without being significantly rewarded. Thats my honest opinion, not a sarcastic remark. And I did stop my adwords ad, not because I'm bitter or as a threat, but because I don't feel that its cost is in proportion to its benefit.
I said stuff like "thanks very much for letting me know" because I was glad you addressed this and said you weren't going to change it. In my mind, thats fine, its your game. If you want to keep attracting new players, I feel that it is a mistake, but again, thats your mistake to make.
Again, you can take my posts as sarcastic... I guess I could see that even though they were not intended to be. You could maybe take them as threatening, although I tried very hard to not come off like that, because I wasn't intending to threaten, I was intending to let you know what I, as a large recruiter, felt about the cost/benefits of recruiting in its present state and what likely course of action would be. I have no idea where you got intimidation from?
The point being, frankly, I'm a little upset about your comments. I can't help how people take things, and I know you've obviously got your hands full at the moment, but you just very unfairly described me.

with the way i just mentioned. people would max out with recruiting prize items at 4 per year. you could give them to the best 5 per month that haven't gotten one that quarter. the old way was infinite.

Where the heck did I say I quit?
Why do you have it in for me Z?
I just told you my opinion. I don't believe recruiting will be at the level it was before with this greatly reduced reward. And then I illustrated just how big of a difference it is.
If you want continue to belittle me, have at it. I'm doing my best to rise above the fray. I don't what I need to do to get treated with some iota of respect.... I'm not being disrespectful, and I try to be helpful in my way, pointing out bugs, giving my opinion.

Sarcasm ..
Do you realize that in one week's time, you have gone from being my favorite forum user to now being way down the list? (If you don't believe me, ask Eve and Gil .. I had mentioned that several times to them before) That may not bother you much but it does me considering that many of your questions and other posts are a great addition to these forums.

I'm telling you, your reading the tone completely wrong there.
I did take my adsense ad down. I didn't tell you to threaten you, I told you so you knew how I was reacting to to new recruitment policy. Make sense?
The "I imagine I'm not the only one" is exactly that. My speculation that I'm not alone in feeling that paying google $50 a month is not worth it for just a handful of Everpoints. Or whatever else it is people did to generate recruits. Basically, I put that there to inform you that if I don't think the proverbial juice is worth the squeeze, I imagine others will feel the same.
And finally, I said "good luck" because I meant it genuinely.
Now, I am/can be a sarcastic person. And sometimes even childish. But, I assure 100% I was not once trying to be in this thread. I was actually thinking in my head "I don't want this to sound like a complaint" because it wasn't meant as one. It was meant as a "hey, heads up guys, I think you're going to find your recruiting numbers dropping." And thats it.

I'll say it as many times as it comes up, I disagree with that reward concept, I always disagreed with it and disagree with it in the future.
If I am in the top whatever in the future I don't want it! :p
Give it to someone in the bottom x players. Random newbie bonus or something. "Noob lotto!" :)
Why would you give a top player something to make them better essentially just for being a top player? - they can do it themselves by their own determination or skill or initiative. That's the whole point.
My second point is I can handle everything being zeroed, I just don't like 0*
*Except those 25 players we decided to give a reward to make them better, for being in the top 25 in the first place because they were already better.

Hey HULK I know how tone can be a problem, but it did look that way to my eyes on first read too. On second read after your comments it didn't seem that way.
I think you need more of these sort of thingys :)
Ah we all have our e-mail or post moments where we upset someone unintentionally this way.... :( I've done it a few times

I'm talking about top recruiters, I don't know if that came across right or not.
The lowest player in the game can be the best recruiter, and this would be beneficial to the game because, like you said, there isn't enough benefit to really work on recruiting.

Did you know that most games dont offer any type of rewards for bringing people into them? If you like the game, guess what? You tell your friends because it's something you like. If you dont like the game, then you tell them how bad it sucks, and they dont play. Zeras offered something for bringing people into the game, it may not be much, but it definately adds up. With it taking 3 hours offline, or 30 minutes online to earn enough to fight someone, the person bringing in the recruits will be better in the long run. However, just because you bring people to the game, should not reward you with items that make you better than other people.
I could see them doing things to create certain special items, like a Battle of the best, where people were placed in brackets, and fought it out till only one was left. And the the winner be given a unique, special item. Or they could have a daily or weekly lotto. Where they used a RNG to award a person with a few Ep's or Sp's...But I am 100% against people getting free, unbalancing items specificaly for recruiting people. Recruiting gives you a slight advantage now...Whereas before, it was a HUGE advantage...This is much more fair...Recruit or dont...It's completely your choice

The previous 2 online games of this type that I have played both offered recruiting rewards, these were "army" games.
I have no problems with the rewards being in EP rather than prize codes but there's a balance. If the devs want more players, they will encourage and incent recruiting.
The more incentive, the more recruiting, it just comes down to what sort of balance the developers desire.

You also have to remember that the ads these guys had up (I think) cost money. (Crepitus & Hulk, correct me if I 'm wrong)
Therefore, removing an ad isn't really so much a threat, as an obvious response - once you realize that the benefit of advertising is pretty much zero, it's coming down.

It looks like the devs have responded quite quickly to provide substantially more recruitment incentive with the 5 EP/100 battles. :)

I still swear by all that is precious that I was not intending to come off as sarcastic or threatening. I wanted to inform, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered posting such a long post.
Regardless of my intent, I'm sorry you took it that way and it then upset you. I promise that is not what I wanted. I just wanted you to be advised that the reward of recruiting wasn't enough for me to keep pumping $50 a month into google ads.
I still haven't made up my mind if I'll turn it back on @ the revised level. Thats for me to decide myself, so I won't talk about it further.
I honestly just hope you're not pissed Z, I don't like the thought of you being miffed at me.
