Default Game Update #17 - July 1, 2007

Major New EverWars Game Engine Released!

The new release of EverWars is not only a major update, it is also a major rewrite of most areas and concepts in the game! The item database has been completely rebuilt (thanks Gil!!) as well. We will do our best to get documentation and the FAQ forum updated as soon as possible.

We have tried to take your concerns into consideration while making these changes while at the same time trying to keep the game fun for a long time and the servers from becoming overloaded.

Now the bad news ...

Unfortunately, due to all of the changes to the game engine, the new item database along with other changes, it was necessary to perform a partial database wipe of all player items, money, skills, battles, etc.

Given that the game is in beta and we have had that option available to us the entire time, we have always tried to avoid doing it. We gave serious consideration to attempting to write some sort of conversion program even if there was no way to do it perfectly.

However, we became aware of a few exploits about 3 weeks ago that were being abused by users. One of these in particular was being used by several members. When we found it about 3 weeks ago, we activated extended logging to see just how many users were taking advantage of it. To our surprise, there were over 150 users exploiting the bug. As a result, that convinced us the only fair thing to do for the rest of the honest players was to go with the database wipe.

To combat this in the future, any user caught intentionally using or abusing an exploit will have their account completely deleted!

The one exception to the database wipe is that we are letting players keep their recruits. This means that those of you who have recruited in the past will start earning EverPoints as your recruits play the game. If you know of players who have quit playing, tell them to come check out the new version of the game so you can earn more everpoints!

Now, the good news ...

We believe most of you are going to really love the changes we have made. We have tried to make the game more fun and better looking. After making sure the new game engine is working correctly for the next couple of days, our next two projects will be a completely searchable item database and the player market which should grealty improve the game. We have several other minor things we will be adding to the game in the near future as well such as player search.

If you find any additions or changes to the game that are not listed in the Game Updates, please let us know!

We hope you enjoy the new game engine and please let us know if you encounter any bugs!

Site Changes
  • A completely new layout for EverWars.com is now online. The forum layout will be updated in a few days.
  • The page navigation menu has been added to the top of all pages where it is needed.
  • Item card images now show your current stats and the item's full stats if due to skill level requirements you do not have access to all of the item's stats.
  • The battle confirmation screen has been improved to show both your and your opponent's avatar, level and race.
  • Graphical bars have been added to the right side of the page to show stat and level progression.
Player Changes
  • Player levels have been added to the game as an alternative progression method. As your level increases, you will gain access to additional features and benefits such as increased life and the ability to win new items.
  • Players can now only play one class at a time. If you reset all of your skills, you can change classes.
Battle Changes
  • When you win a battle, you will receive a prize code that will almost always award you with an item.
  • When you lose a battle, you will receive a Skill Point prize code that will award you with a skill point.
  • The fatigue timer has been removed.
  • Battles now cost 3 everpoints. If you fight again too quickly after your last battle, your cost to battle will be higher.
  • Battles now operate based on turns rather than rounds.
  • The battle results page has been formatted to show the battle log results based on turns and in a much easier to read format.
  • When in battle, each player has a base 50% chance to attack every single turn. This rate can be modified by the attack modifier on items.
  • The old stamina system that operated based on item usage in battle has been removed.
  • Most items now have a new Energy cost. Exceeding your energy limit will negatively affect all of your stats.
  • Players are now color-coded based on how they compare to your character. The easier the opponent, the lower the quality of items you have a chance to win. The harder the opponent, the higher the quality of items you have a chance to win.
Item Changes
  • All spells and many other items have been renamed.
  • Some old items have been removed.
  • Many new items have been added.
  • Most items have had their stats changed.
  • Items now assigned to a specific player level. The level only limits which items you can buy from the in-game shops and win from prize codes. You will not be limited from using a higher level item if you obtain them in the future from the player market.
  • Offense items can now have an Attack modifier on them that can affect your chances of attacking during the next battle turn.
  • Skill level requirements on most items have been changed to 100. If you do not have any skill in an item, you will only receive a small percentage of the stats (currently 25%).
Shop Changes
  • There are now a lot more shops online and each store will have various levels and rarities of items. With the increased number of shops, it will be easier to find items you are looking for.
  • Prices in shops will now vary each time the shops are restocked.
  • There is now a FREE items shop where you can obtain free items for your character. From time to time we may add special items to this shop but its purpose is to allow new and existing players the ability to fill all of their empty slots.
Prize Changes
  • All prize types have been replaced. Now, you will receive a prize code based on how tough your opponent is. The types are:
    • Bronze Prize Code - You can only win a common item.
    • Silver Prize Code - You can win a common or uncommon item.
    • Gold Prize Code - You can win a common, uncommon or rare item.
    • Platinum Prize Code - You can win a common, uncommon, rare or ultrarare prize code.
  • Prizes are now awarded based on your current level.
  • The chance of winning rare items has been increased.
Ranking Changes
  • Ranking Groups have been removed.
  • Players ranked are now color-coded based on how they con to you (from very easy to very hard) since that will determine which prize type you receive.
Recruiting Changes
  • The reward for recruiting players is now everpoints. You earn 1 everpoint when your recruits fight their first battle and you will continue to earn 5 everpoints for every 100 battles they fight for as long as they play EverWars.
